Lions Club
The Gleichen Lions Club was formed in 1966 with a mandate for community improvement. Currently the Lions Club meets the second Monday of each month at the Gleichen Community Center.
The motto of Lions International is “We Serve.” It is in this regard that the Gleichen Lions Club is involved with a number of ongoing projects. The most longstanding project of the Gleichen Lions Club is the maintenance of the Gleichen Cemetery. The Gleichen Lions also support the Ag. Society in their efforts to build and maintain recreational facilities in Gleichen. In conjunction with the Cluny Fire Department, the Gleichen Lions help pay transportation costs for summer swimming lessons for local children. The Gleichen Lions Club also supports local youth with donations for various school trophies and 4-H awards. The Lions support S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance with their annual S.T.A.R.S. Breakfast at the Gleichen Fall Fair, and Gleichen senior citizens are treated each year to a Christmas turkey supper. Finally, the Gleichen Lions Club and Lions Club International support the prevention and treatment of blindness through the Lions Foundation Operation Eyesight Universal, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Diabetes Association, and Lions Eye Bank.
